The brief
The Imperial Novice Course has delivered anaesthesia induction training since 2010. Although traditionally an in person course, the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 required the course organisers to pivot. They devised a hybrid programme with both online and in person components. The online need was for a platform to automate trainee registration and provide access to self paced learning resources as well as collect participant feedback. For course administrators, a portal was required to manage and organise applicants as well as track trainee progress.
What we did
Our initial research concluded that Wordpress with Learndash was a solid platform that would cater to all of the needs. We set up the website and the course consisting of dozens of video podcast modules and written topics. Coded customisation were written to modify the look and behaviour. The site tracks trainee progress and issues certificates for completed modules. Public areas of the site explain course format, dates for interactive Zoom sessions and practical skills days.
Registration flows were set up by integrating Learndash with Gravity forms to achieve a simple automated workflow.
The result
A long-running educational platform that has seen 2 cohorts join every year since its launch. The platform allows registered trainees to access learning materials in digestible chunks, continues to collect strong feedback and provides valuable metrics for course administrators.
